Growing up, my mom was into really healthy food, long before healthy food tasted good. (A caveat here: I am really thankful for that now, though I didn’t understand then…)
We had stuff like sugar-free carob cookies and other fruit juice sweetened “treats”. My skater friends would come over to raid the pantry expecting to find Little Debbie snacks, and we’d have all these weird biscuits that tasted like cardboard. It was around that time that I found “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at the local video store. I was instantly hooked and have easily watched the original movie with Gene Wilder hundreds of times. Hands down probably my favorite movie.
So, I’ve always considered myself kind of the “Willy Wonka” of my Slobot universe. A few years back, I did some sketches featuring Slobot-ish robot Oompa Loompa’s that work in my Slobot Factory helping me make the robots. The first one I called “Slonkabot 1000”. This is actually the second instance of the character, the first being applied to a MAQET (rip). Below is my Slonkabot 1000 character applied to an 8″ KAWS Companion figure. Like most of my Slobots, he has a big glow in the dark eye and glow wires. He also has a label on his back that looks like a golden ticket.
