Gallery View – I Love My Robot at Louise Jones Brown Gallery

From November 14-December 2, 2018, Mike Slobot showed his unique robot art at the Louise Brown Gallery @ Duke University. The show filled both rooms in the gallery with Mike’s unique robot vision, the Slobots.

Full of color and human emotion, Mike’s Slobots are at once friendly and accessible, but explore the idea of robotics, AI, computers, and privacy for the digital age. Mike’s robots are as likely to be dog walkers as they are to have tongue in cheek thoughts on every day life.

“The Algorithm Series” is a multimedia triptych of three 16″ x 20″ Panels with 10 inch computer tablets as the robot’s “body”. The tablets display a custom looped video created by Mike. See video below for the Algorithms in action.

“Secure 5” is a new sculpture by Mike Slobot that combines an 8 inch tall Lego Minifig body and a motion activated faux security camera. The piece is a commentary on the surveillance culture of modern technology.

The Panel Series – mixed media on canvas, each panel is 16″ x20″. Mike envisions that these panels are pieces of spaceships or robots viewed close up. Each bright colored panel also includes glow in the dark elements.
